HYPNOTHERAPY Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of clinical hypnosis for the treatment and alleviation of a number of somatic, psychosomatic and psychological conditions. It is used in dealing with a wide range of problems and myriad of life issues from the desire to change habits and behaviours to managing pain and creating the life you want. Guided by the hypnotist, hypnosis is carried out by relaxing your body and mind into a state of complete relaxation were treatment begins. This state of relaxation is experienced naturally every time before falling to sleep and just before awakening. You frequently drift into this trance like state when you are watching a television programme, reading or listening to music, day dream or are lost in thought; and even when you are driving and don’t know how you got to your destination. All of these are experienced during a light to medium trance with the exceptional difference that hypnosis is guided, specifically focused and goal orientated. In facilitating change hypnosis, guided imagery, suggestions and self hypnotic techniques are used for self improvement, behavioural change and healthy lifestyle. This relaxed state allows the subconscious mind to become receptive to change. The hypnotic state allows you to communicate with your subconscious to alter the process of memory, perception, emotional, behavioural and attitude. The hypnotic suggestions allow you to regulate the activities in certain regions of the brain and help it to manage conscious and unconscious conflicts of the body and mind. The hypnotic state does not allow the conscious mind to get in the way by logic, questioning, reasoning, evaluating, judging and making decisions. It opens the door way to the subconscious mind, where memories and information is stored. You can at all times interrupt what is happening at anytime during the process, as you are still consciously aware of what is going on and you can talk during the hypnosis. You are still in charge and in complete control of your free will. Traditional hypnotherapy involves the hypnotist to guide and embed suggestions to the client’s subconscious mind. The client is led and given instructions to change. This type of hypnotherapy often covers over the root cause of the client’s problem, it still very effective especially for people who do not want to open up old wounds. For example, in the treatment of insomnia the patient is given positive suggestions to sleep, those with low self esteem are given suggestions to feel confident and pregnant women are instructed to have feelings of well being. Advanced hypnotherapy also known as cognitive hypnotherapy is guided by the hypnotist for the client to identify the patterns, memories, beliefs and what the root cause of the problem is at the subconscious level. It is a process of investigation of where the problem is from, how the subconscious has relayed and stored the information and what it needs to change, given the appropriate instructions and gaining agreements with the parts of the self, body and mind. Post-hypnotic suggestions are given to clients to take affect later in the waking state and carried out minutes, days or years later. For example, the next time they see a spider, the irrational fear of seeing a spider could be given a post hypnotic suggestion that you are calm and relaxed, it is harmless, small and you have no feelings or emotions attached to it. Just as they are getting on with their life, you will get on with yours. The sensations you would be directed to experience is pleasant. NLP-hypnosis applies strategies, and techniques through guided visualisation to re-programme, adapt or change the past and create the new by using all your sensory perceptions, your creative mind will direct parts of you to become congruent and agree acceptance of your desires. The process of NLP-hypnosis may include metaphors, analogies, conflict resolution, modelling, and future pacing the life you want in the future to list a few. Self-hypnosis teaches you to learn how to communicate with your subconscious mind for yourself. It is through active dialogue with your unconscious mind you can develop the results and outcomes you want in your life. By learning to dialogue with your subconscious is like having a best friend, who will support you at all times, and never let you down. By using your subconscious it means you will utilise 100% of your mind rather than just 10%.
